Do I need a permit for banners larger than 6 square feet?

Yes. According to the New York City Department of Buildings (DOB), any banner larger than 6 square feet requires a permit, regardless of whether the property is residential or commercial.

Please note:

  • Several agents have previously received violations from the DOB for displaying banners without proper permits.

  • If a violation is issued and the banner is not removed within the required timeframe, the property owner or agent may face fines starting around $1,000 and potentially increasing to as much as $6,000.

We strongly recommend ensuring compliance before installing any large banner.
